The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights wishes to inform the general public that the Special Rapporteur on Refugees, Asylum seekers the Honourable Commissioner Maya Sahli Fadel will chair a validation meeting of the Study on African Responses to the Issue of Migrants and the Protection of Migrants in Africa and the Development of African Guiding Principles on the Human Rights of all Migrants this Saturday, 18 March 2023 from 09:00 to 17:00 (Banjul time) on a virtual platform.
The objective of the meeting will be to present the final versions of the two above-mentioned documents, in order to improve and finalise them for submission to the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights for consideration and adoption.
The Study on African Responses to the Issue of Migrants and the Protection of Migrants in Africa and the African Guidelines on Human Rights were developed following the adoption during the 68th Ordinary Session of Resolution 481, mandating the Special Rapporteur to undertake a study on African responses to the issue of migrants and the protection of migrants in Africa and, on the basis of this study, to develop guidelines on the protection of the rights of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. The study is funded under the EU/AGA support programme 2021-2023.
Participants will include members of the expert consortium, national human rights institutions, experts and other partners working on the protection of migrants and refugees.
