RESOLUTION ON THE RENEWAL OF THE MANDATE OF THE JOINT FACT-FINDING MISSION TO THE REPUBLIC OF THE SUDAN. ACHPR/Res.609 (LXXXI) 2024

The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (the Commission), meeting at its 81st Ordinary Session, held from 17 October to 6 November 2024;

Recalling its mandate to promote and protect human rights in Africa under Article 45 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (the African Charter); 

Recalling also its Resolution ACHPR/Res.590 (LXXX) 2024 on the fact-finding mission adopted at the 80th Ordinary Session held from 24 July to 2 August 2024;

Taking note of the update on the progress of the mission's work presented to this 81st Extraordinary Session of the Commission;

Considering the expiry of the initial three-month mandate of the fact-finding mission to the Republic of Sudan; 

The Commission decides to :
i.    Renew the mandate of the fact-finding mission to the Republic of the Sudan for a period of six (6) months, starting from 02 November 2024;
ii.    Conduct the mission in a hybrid format comprising field missions and virtual investigations, depending on the resources provided.
