Press Release: Extension of Deadline for Submissions to the ACHPR Hybrid Joint Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan

The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) announces an extension of the deadline for submissions to the Hybrid Joint Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) on Sudan, conducted in collaboration with the AU Department of Political Affairs, Peace, and Security (DPAPS). The new deadline for submissions is 16 February 2025.

The ACHPR remains committed to ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive process, allowing for the widest possible range of contributions regarding human rights violations arising from the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Call for Contributions

The FFM continues to seek detailed information in the following areas:
a.    Civil and Political Rights Violations: Incidents of arbitrary arrests and detentions, denial of fair trial rights, suppression of freedom of expression and assembly, and restrictions on political and civic engagement.
b.    Socio-Economic and Cultural Rights Violations: Any restrictions or denials of access to essential services, including healthcare, education, housing, and livelihood resources, as well as violations affecting the right to cultural practices and traditional livelihoods.
c.    Personal Security and Integrity: Reports of enforced disappearances, torture, extrajudicial killings, sexual and gender-based violence, violence against vulnerable groups, and other forms of abuse against civilians.
d.    Impact on Vulnerable Populations: Documentation on the effects of the conflict on refugees, asylum seekers, and internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as women, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.)
e.    Humanitarian Concerns: Any obstructions to humanitarian access, attacks on humanitarian personnel or facilities, and denial of basic protections for civilians under international human rights and humanitarian law.
f.    Environmental and Property Rights: Destruction or seizure of property, forced displacement from ancestral lands, damage to the environment, and its impact on the lives and livelihoods of communities.

Revised Submission Guidelines:

We invite individuals, civil society organizations, national human rights institutions, and other stakeholders to submit inputs that include:
•    A detailed description of each incident, including dates, locations, involved parties, and any evidence or supporting documentation;
•    Statements from witnesses, survivors, and affected communities;
•    Photographic, video, or other media evidence, accompanied by a written description or narrative explaining the context, date, location, and source of the material;
•    All submissions must be accompanied by the completed submission form to ensure proper documentation and analysis; and
•    Recommendations on measures of prevention, protection, and reparation. These could include, among others, policy and normative measures, accountability measures with a view to avoiding and ending impunity for any individual involved in ordering, facilitating, or perpetrating crimes under international law, as well as reparation measures for victims, survivors, and their families.
