On 10 September 2019, a Joint Letter of Appeal was transmitted by the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa and the Commissioner Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the United Republic of Tanzania, to H.E. the President of the United Republic of Tanzania regarding the arrest of Tanzanian journalist, Mr. Erick Kabendera.
The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights will remain actively seized of this matter.
