State Reports

<h2><a href="https://www.achpr.org/statertcon">State Reports And Concluding-Observations</a></h2>

<div>Pursuant to Article 62 of the African Charter, State Parties are required to submit every two years, a report on the legislative or other measures taken, with a view to giving effect to the rights and freedoms recognized and guaranteed by the Charter. Further, supplementary instruments to the African Charter, such as the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (the Maputo Protocol), require State Parties to indicate in their periodic reports submitted in accordance with Article 62 of the African Charter, the legislative and other measures undertaken for the full realisation of the rights recognized in the Protocol.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Institutions, organisations or any interested party wishing to contribute to the examination of a State Party report are also permitted to send their contributions, including shadow reports, to the Secretariat 60 days prior to the examination of the State Party report.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Once the Commission examines State Party reports and engages in dialogue with representatives from the State Parties during its ordinary session, it adopts concluding observations which recognize positive developments, areas of concern and finally make recommendations.</div>

<h2>State Reporting Procedures and Guidelines</h2>

<p>In addition to the reporting requirement under Article 62 of the African Charter as noted above, Article 26 of the Protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women (Maputo Protocol) provides that “States Parties shall […] in their periodic reports submitted in accordance with Article 62 of the African Charter, indicate the legislative and other measures undertaken for the full realisation of the rights herein recognised.”</p>
