The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Secretariat) wishes to inform the general public that it will be organizing a Regional Seminar on the theme “Implementation of the Decisions of the Commission” from 04-06 September 2018, in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The Regional Seminar is being organized by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights for State Parties and other stakeholders from East and Southern regions of Africa, as part of its mandate to monitor State Parties’ compliance with the African Charter and other relevant human rights legal instruments.
The overall objective of the Seminar is to strengthen the African Human Rights System, with a view to enhancing the Commission’s mandate in the promotion and protection of human rights on the continent and the specific objective is to assess the status of implementation of Concluding Observations and other decisions of the Commission with a view to enhance implementation by State Parties.
The Regional Seminar is being financed under the Joint EU-AU Cooperation Programme 2017-2019 known as PANAF, whose main objective is to improve respect for and realization of the rights under the African Charter with a view to contribute to ensuring a transparent, democratic and accountable environment in the respect of human rights and the rule of law in Africa.
It will be attended by representatives drawn from State Parties, NHRIs, and Representatives of Network of NGOs from the East and South Africa regions and other stakeholders.
