Press Release on the Promotion Mission to the Republic of Senegal

The African Commission on Human Rights and Peoples' Rights (the Commission) informs the general public that on the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Senegal, the Commissioner in charge of monitoring and promoting human rights in the Republic of Senegal and Special Rapporteur on Refugees, Asylum seekers, Internally displaced persons and Migrants in Africa, Honorable Commissioner Maya Sahli Fadel, will conduct a promotional visit to the Republic of Senegal from 14 to 21 September 2015.

This mission will be conducted in accordance with Article 45 (1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (African Charter) under its mandate to promote human rights.

The objectives of this mission will mainly consist of promoting the African Charter and other regional and international legal instruments on human rights; strengthen relations between the Commission and the Republic of Senegal in the field of promotion and protection of human rights.

During the mission, the Honorable Commissioner will meet relevant representatives of Ministries of the Government, Civil Society Organizations and various actors of human rights working in the country as well as other persons and institutions that could inform the Commission on the general situation of human rights in the Republic of Senegal.

At the end of the mission, preliminary observations will be made to the competent authorities and a press conference will be organized. The Honorable Commissioner will present the findings of her mission in a detailed report which will be considered at a future session of the Commission.
