These Guidelines were adopted at the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Commission, in April 1989, and were attached to the Commission's Second Annual Activity Report 1988-1989.?

- General guidelines regarding the form and contents of reports on economic and social rights (including right to health and right to education)
- General guidelines regarding the form and contents of reports to be submitted on the peoples’ rights - Articles 19 to 24 of the Charter
- General guidelines regarding the form and contents of reports to be submitted on specific duties under the Charter
- General guidelines concerning the form and contents of reports by states parties on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination
- General guidelines regarding the form and contents of reports to be submitted by states parties on the suppression and punishment of the crime of apartheid
- General guidelines regarding the form and contents of reports received from states parties on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women
