The African Court of Human and Peoples Rights which I have the honor and privilege to represent at this forum wishes to express its profound gratitude to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights for inviting me to the deliberations of the 51st Ordinary Session.
I cannot but commend the African Commission for its continual efforts in protecting and promoting human rights. Our constant participation in the public sessions has enabled us to appreciate the enormous activities carried out on the ground by the Commission, and this has culminated in a deeper conviction about the highly important and inevitable role that the Commission plays in the African human rights protection system.
Moreover, if any further demonstration was still necessary, our presence here shows, the unavoidable complementarity existing between the two bodies; which complementarity still needs to be deepened for greater and effective human rights protection on the African continent.
On this note, I conclude my opening remarks by wishing you all the best in your deliberations at the 51st Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
