The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (the Commission), meeting at its 83rd Ordinary Session, held from 2 to 22 May 2025, in Banjul, The Gambia;
Recalling its mandate to promote and protect human and peoples’ rights in Africa under Article 45 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Charter);
Considering that the African Charter enshrines economic, social and cultural rights, in particular in Articles 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21 and 22 thereof;
Recalling Resolution ACHPR/Res.561 (LXXV) 2023 on Conducting a Study on Integrating Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in National Development Planning in Africa, mandating the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Africa, in collaboration with its partners, to prepare a draft Study on ‘Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and National Sustainable Development Processes in Africa’, and to present it to the Commission for its consideration and adoption within one (1) year;
Considering that the deadline for completing the Study expired on 23 May 2024; and
Mindful of the need to provide the the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Africa, with sufficient time to finalise the Draft Study;
The Commission:
1. Decides to extend by one (1) year, the deadline set for the finalisation of the Study on Integrating Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in National Development Planning in Africa; and
2. Calls on all relevant stakeholders to provide the necessary support to the Study.
