The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has a new Bureau, elected on 22 October 2013, during the 54th Ordinary Session which is currently underway in Banjul, The Gambia.
The new Chairperson is Honorable Commissioner KAYITESI, Zainabo Sylvie; and the new Vice-Chairperson is Honorable Commissioner Mohamed Béchir Khalfallah.
Honorable Commissioner KAYITESI Zainabo Sylvie had been the Vice Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights for the past 2 years. She was a former Minister in the Republic of Rwanda, she chaired the National Human Rights Institution in her native country of Rwanda for 8 years; and she is currently the Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of Rwanda.
The Vice-Chairperson, honorable Commissioner Mohamed Béchir Khalfallah, had been a Senator in the Republic of Tunisia, representing Tunisian Diaspora from Europe, until recently. He had also been the Chairperson of League Africaine des droits de l’homme for a very long time.
