Concluding Observations and Recommendations on the Combined Periodic Report of the Republic of The Gambia on the Implementation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (1994-2018) and the Initial Report on the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (the Maputo Protocol) (2005-2014)

I. INTRODUCTION

1. The Republic of The Gambia (The Gambia) is a State Party to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (the African Charter), having ratified it on 8 June 1983.

2. The Gambia submitted its Periodic Combined Report in accordance with Article 62 of the African Charter and its Initial Report on the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (the Maputo Protocol) pursuant to Article 26 of the Maputo Protocol on 03 September 2018 and the Reports covered the periods 1994 to 2018 and 2005 to 2014 respectively.

3. The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (the Commission) considered the Report at its 64th Ordinary Session, held from 24 April - 14 May 2019 in Sharm el Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt.

4. The Report was presented to the Commission by the Delegation from The Gambia (the Delegation) which comprised the following officials:
i. Mr. Abubacarr Marie Tambadou- Attorney General and Minister of Justice, (Head of Delegation);
ii. Mr. Mr Cherno Marenah- Solicitor General and Legal Secretary, Ministry of Justice;
