Statement on Joint Letter of Urgent Appeal to the Republic of Uganda

On 8th January 2026, Special mechanisms of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights transmitted a Joint Letter of Urgent Appeal to His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, regarding the arbitrary arrest and detention of Dr. Sarah Bireete, a pro-democracy, Human Rights activist and electoral observer in Uganda.
