Banjul, The Gambia — 15 October 2025, The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) will hold a Press Conference to announce the publication of the Report on its Fact-Finding Mission on the Situation in the Republic of the Sudan.

The Report, available in English, French and Arabic, presents the Mission’s findings on alleged human rights violations and abuses committed in Sudan since the outbreak of hostilities in April 2023. It provides detailed analysis, testimonies, and recommendations aimed at ensuring accountability and advancing human rights protection.
Members of the Fact-Finding Mission and Commissioners of the ACHPR will brief the media on the key findings and recommendations of the Report and respond to questions from journalists. The press conference will be conducted in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic with simultaneous interpretation.
1. Background:
The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), in accordance with its mandate under Article 45 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and pursuant
to Resolution ACHPR/Res.590 (LXXX) 2024, establishing the Joint Fact-Finding Mission on the human rights situation in Sudan, and Resolutions ACHPR/Res.609 (LXXXII) 2024, ACHPR/Res.635 (LXXXIII) 2025 extending the mandate of the FFM, to investigate alleged human rights violations and abuses committed in the context of the ongoing conflict that erupted on 15 April 2023.
Over the past year, the FFM has conducted extensive documentation and analysis, including the collection of written and oral testimonies from victims, witnesses, and civil society actors; engagement with relevant authorities; and cooperation with international partners such as the United Nations Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The Report of the Fact-Finding Mission on the Situation in the Republic of the Sudan was presented and adopted by the African Commission during its 84th Ordinary Session, held virtually from 21 to 30 July 2025. The Report presents the Mission’s findings, legal analysis, and recommendations to Member States, the African Union, and the international community.
2. Objective of the Press Conference
The purpose of the press conference is to formally announce the publication of the Report of the ACHPR Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan and to brief the media and the public on its key findings and recommendations. The event will also serve to highlight the Commission’s ongoing engagement on the human rights situation in Sudan and its commitment to supporting justice and peace efforts on the continent.
Specifically, the press conference will:
• Present the main findings and conclusions of the FFM Report;
• Discuss the main recommendations addressed to the Government of Sudan, AU Member States, and international partners; and
• Announce the availability of the Report in English, French and Arabic on the ACHPR website.
3. Expected Outcomes:
• Enhanced public awareness and understanding of the findings of the FFM on Sudan;
• Strengthened advocacy for accountability and protection of victims;
• Broader engagement by AU organs, Member States, and partners in implementing the recommendations of the FFM; and
• Media dissemination of the report’s conclusions across the continent and internationally.
