The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Commission) with great sadness learnt of the passing away of Professor Azzouz Kerdoun on 12 January 2023, who was recently appointed as an Expert Member of the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of the Commission.
In addition to being a Professor of International Law, known and recognised throughout the region, Professor Azzouz Kerdoun was among the circle of eminent international experts who have contributed greatly to the promotion of the human rights international agenda, and more particularly economic, social and cultural rights.
Azzouz Kerdoun will be remembered as a Professor, Researcher, Author and Expert, whose contribution and work will continue to inspire respect.
The passing away of Professor Azzouz Kerdoun is a great loss, not only for his country the Peoples‘ Democratic Republic of Algeria, but also for the African continent.
On behalf of the Commission, I wish to extend our sincere condolences to the Kerdoun family in Algeria, with whom we share the pain of this loss, while praying to the Good Lord to welcome Professor Azzouz Kerdoun into Paradise.
Honourable Commissioner Mudford Zachariah Mwandenga, Chairperson of the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Africa.
