Press Release on the Meeting of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of People Living with HIV and those at Risk, Vulnerable to and Affected by HIV

The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Secretariat) wishes to inform the general public that it will be organizing a meeting of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of People Living with HIV and those at Risk, Vulnerable to and Affected by HIV (the Committee), of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the African Commission), which will be taking place in Douala, Cameroon, from 27 to 29 December 2011.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Committee to gain a deeper understanding of the HIV and AIDS issues in Cameroon. It will also enable the Committee to make an overall assessment of the human rights challenges within the context of HIV and AIDS, and to directly engage with key stakeholders, including people living with HIV and AIDS and other key affected populations.

The meeting will be attended by Honourable Commissioner Lucy Asuagbor Chairperson of the Committee, Honourable Commissioner Reine Alapini-Gansou, Honourable Commissioner Soyata Maiga, as well as expert members of the Committee.
