Press Statement: Continental Workshop to Promote the Socio-Economic Rights of Women, including in the context of extractive industries, on 25- 26 September 2025 – Physical (Accra, Ghana)
Banjul, 16 September 2025 – The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) is pleased to inform all stakeholders of the following Event: Continental Workshop to promote the socio-economic rights of women, including in the context of extractive industries.
The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the GIZ-African Union AWARE Project and Ipas Africa Alliance, will convene a two-day Continental Workshop to promote the socio-economic rights of women, including in the context of extractive industries from the 25-26 September 2025 in Accra, Ghana.
The overarching objective of the workshop is to create awareness about the socio-economic rights of women, including rights of women in the extractive industries, women with disabilities, elderly and young women, and address systemic and structural issues that perpetuate violation of these rights, with particular focus on education, health, and social protection.
The workshop will gather a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from AU Member States, National Human Rights Institutions, Civil Society Organizations, judicial bodies, and the private sector.
