African Commission sending urgent letter of appeal to the Republic of Kenya calling for cessation of the ongoing eviction of members of the Ogiek in Narok, Mau Forest

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Commission), through its country rapporteur on human rights situations in the Republic of Kenya, Honourable Commissioner Solomon Ayele Dersso, follows with grave concern the reports on the ongoing eviction of members of the Ogiek in Narok, Mau Forest 

The African Commission, through the Country Rapporteur, has initiated an urgent letter of appeal to the Republic of Kenya calling for cessation of the evictions in order to limit the irreparable damage that may be caused to the lives, bodily integrity, sources of livelihoods, family life, safety and security of vulnerable members including women, children and the elderly

The African Commission appeals for the promotion of cooperation by the Government of Kenya on the specific measures it has called for in the urgent letter of appeal and avails itself to supporting the Government in this regard.
