This mission, which is part of the African Commission’s promotional mandate, is aimed at encouraging dialogue between the African Commission and the Republic of Malawi, and to among other things, exchange views with human rights stakeholders on ways and means of enhancing the enjoyment of human rights in the country.
The Mission will be undertaken by Commissioner Mumba Malila, Member of the African Commission responsible for the promotion of human rights in Malawi, and the African Commission’s Special Rapporteur on Prisons and Conditions of Detention in Africa. He will be accompanied by Dr. Robert Wundeh Eno, Legal Officer for Protection, at the Secretariat of the African Commission.
During the Mission, the delegation will meet with a cross-section of human rights actors in the country, especially those working in the field of human rights: including in particular, relevant government officials, members of parliament, members of the judiciary, the police, civil society organisations, political party leaders, and other individuals or institutions capable of enlightening the African Commission on the human rights situation in Malawi.
At the end of the mission, the preliminary findings will be discussed with the relevant government authorities. A Press Conference will also be held to brief the press and the general public on these findings.
