CALLS FOR SUBMISSION OF ACTIVITY REPORTS OF NGOS WITH OBSERVER STATUS AND NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS INSTITUTIONS WITH AFFILIATE STATUS

With regards to the forthcoming virtual 67th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Commission), which is scheduled to be held from 13 November to 03 December 2020, the Commission would like to remind National Human Rights Institutions with Affiliate Status (NHRIs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with Observer Status of their obligation to submit activity reports to the Commission.

Specifically the Resolution on the Criteria for Granting and Maintaining Observer Status to Non-Governmental Organizations working on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa and the Resolution on the Granting of Affiliate Status to National Human Rights Institutions and specialized human rights institutions in Africa, stipulate that the NGOs with Observer Status and NHRIs with Affiliate Status“shall present their activity reports to the Commission every two years.”

The Commission would like to call on all NGOs with Observer Status and National institutions with Affiliate Status, including Organizations which intend to intervene on the Human Rights Situation in Africa during the 67th Ordinary Session, to submit their activity reports to the Commission no later than 30 October 2020.

NB: NHRIS and NGOs which submitted their activity report to the Commission within the period from November 2018 to October 2020, are up to date with their reporting obligations to the Commission.
