Hon. Idrissa Sow
Honourable Commissioner Idrissa Sow, a Senegalese, was elected as a member of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in October 2021 and sworn into office on 15 November 2021. He is the Chairperson of the Working Group on the Death Penalty, Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Killings and Enforced Disappearances in Africa; Vice-Chairperson of the Working Group on Specific Issues Related to the Work of the Commission; Member of the Working Group on Older Persons and People with Disabilities in Africa; Member of the Working Group on Communications; and Member of the Resolutions Committee.
Honourable Sow has expertise in the Law of International Organizations, Human Rights Litigation, International Criminal Law, Community Law, Justice – Rule of Law, Fundamental Rights, Public International Law, and Administrative Litigation.
He currently works as Counsellor at the Supreme Court of Senegal. He has worked previously as Legal Auditor at the ECOWAS Court of Justice; Lecturer on ‘Disputes at the Community Level’ at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the Université Cheikh Anta Diop; Auditor at the Supreme Court of Senegal; Sitting Judge at the Regional Court Hors Classe, Dakar, among others.
Honourable Sow, who holds a doctorate degree in public law, works in French but is also proficient in English.
