The African Commission on Human Rights and Peoples' Rights (the Commission) informs the general public that on the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, delegation of the Commission comprising Honourable Commissioner kayitesi Zainabo Sylvie, Commissioner in charge of human rights promotion and protection in Cote d’Ivoire and Chairperson of the Working Group on the Death Penalty and Extra-judicial, Summary or Arbitrary killings in Africa and Honourable Commissioner Jamesina E. L. King, Chairperson of the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Africa, will undertake a human rights promotion mission in Cote d’Ivoire from 26 September to 5 October 2016.
This mission will be conducted pursuant to Article 45 (1) of the African Charter on Human Human and Peoples' Rights (the African Charter) under the Commission’s promotion mandate.
The objectives of the mission will include promoting the African Charter and other regional and international human rights legal instruments; strengthen relations between the Commission and the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire in the area of promotion and protection of human rights.
During the mission, the delegation will meet officials from relevant Government, ministries, civil society organisations, a cross-section of human rights actors in the country, as well as other individuals and institutions who may enlighten the Commission on the general human rights situation in the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.
At the end of the mission, preliminary observations will be made to the competent authorities and a press conference will be organized. The delegation will present the findings of the mission in a detailed report which will be considered at a future session of the Commission.
