PUBLIC NOTICE: Upcoming Session 69th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human & Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR)

Convened in terms of Article 64 (2) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, read together with Rule 27 of the Rules of Procedure of the ACHPR, 2020

 

Banjul, 16 September 2021; The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the ACHPR) wishes to inform State Parties to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Organs of the African Union, National Human Rights Institutions, International Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations and the general public, that the 69th Ordinary Session, of the ACHPR is scheduled to take place from Monday, 15 November to Sunday, 05 December, 2021.

WHEN:     15 November – 5 December 2021

 

Public Session: 15 – 25 November 2021

Opening Ceremony: Monday, 15 November 2021, 09:00 – 12: 00 Hours (CAT)

Private Session: 26 November – 4 December 2021

Closing Ceremony: 5 December 2021 (Public Session) 14:00 – 17:00 Hours (CAT)

WHO:  The Commissioners and the Secretariat of the ACHPR, all States Parties, Organs of the African Union, National Human Rights Institutions, International Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, and other members of the general public are invited to attend.

 

This Ordinary Session will be virtual because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Commission will focus on the following Session activities:

i. Human Rights Situation in Africa;

ii. Consideration of State Party Reports;

iii. Consideration of Applications for Affiliate Status from NHRIs and for Observer Status from NGOs;

iv. Activity Reports of Commissioners;

v. Panel Discussions;

vi. Consideration of Communications;

vii. Consideration of Concluding Observations;

viii. Consideration of Promotion Mission Reports.
